Created: 2003/01/28 Updated: 2003/02/24 Program: X-Setup (XSET)
After using the plug-in "Appearance\Files&Folders\Files\Start High Priority Context Menu" (XQ Context Menu Options 4.xpl), double-clicking an EXE file inside Explorer results in the "Open with..." window to be displayed.
This behavior is caused by first setting the third option ("Enable command as default command for EXE files") inside this plug-in and later on remove the entire "Start High Priority Command" again by using the first option.
This is a bug inside the plug-in (Version 2.42) which was only deployed with X-Setup 6.3. Any version of this plug-in greater than 2.50 does not contain this bug.
When enabling the "Start High Priority" command, XSET adds the new command XQSHP to the registry. This allows Windows to display the command "Start High Priority" inside the context menu of EXE files.
If selecting the third option, XSET also changes the default option for all EXE file from "open" to "XQSHP" causing all EXE files to be launch with high priority.
If later on the "Start High Priority" command is removed by XSET, because the user has decided that he/she does no longer need it, the "XQSHP" entry is removed from the registry. However, the default option is not changed back to "open", but leaved to "XQSHP". Clicking now on a EXE file causes Windows to search the "XQSHP" command that is no longer inside registry and thus displaying the "Open with..." window.
Using REGEDIT.EXE, move to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell. Locate the value "(Default)" on the right side which should contain the text "XQSHP". Change this to "open" (no quotes).
Download the file 56dl.zip, extract the file "XQ Context Menu Options 4.xpl" and copy this file to your \plugins folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\X-Setup\plugins), overwriting the existing version.
After that, start X-Setup, move to this plug-in, select the first option and click Apply. This will remove this bug.
Use X-Update for X-Setup to download the new file which will be automatically selected by the default options. Download the plug-ins and restart X-Setup.
Inside X-Setup, move to this plug-in, select the first option and click Apply. This will remove this bug.
